At first glance the FUTURECRAFT 4D runners from Adidas look like they were made on another planet for runners of non-human origin that train on atypical surface materials like ultra-advanced hybrid concrete mixed with grippy metal alloys as they run away from life threatening land predators. This is absolutely not your run-of-the-mill Adidas sneaker by any means. Thankfully however this otherworldly looking sneaker brings no harm to the human race. At least none that we know of. In fact, it does quite the opposite. Using a combination of light, oxygen, and Digital Light Synthesis, Adidas in collaboration with Carbon has produced a sole perfected by almost two decades worth of running data. What we have in front of us then is the future of shoe-making technology, design, and performance. It’ll be hard to put them to the test until 2018 as they’re being release progressively in batches of 300, 5,000, and 100,000 pairs so it may be some time before you’ve got your toes wrapped in technological ingenuity. Until then however, we can continue to ponder the alien aesthetic of the FUTURECRAFT 4D and wonder exactly what superhuman abilities they’ll bring to our daily lives. Photos via Adidas.
