If you don’t think Lake Lugano is one of the most beautiful places on Earth… then you’re probably on James Bond’s naughty list by now. The views, topography, and surrounding cities are absolutely sensational. It’s only befitting then that when visiting Lugano you vacation in a place that only makes your stay that much more magical. Enter the Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola.
The former property of a noble Russian family turned hotel in 1885. Let’s forget the fact that this massive estate was once home to a single family, which is a separate conversation altogether… the property is stunning. As it stands today the hotel is home to three restaurants, a spa, it’s own private subtropical garden, a private beach, and a tastefully curated collection of artworks from all around the world. If we’re being honest we’re not as thrilled with the room decor.
The suites are beautiful and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them other than our own palette for interior design. But this is easily forgettable with one overwhelming aspect of the hotel… the views. The views are to die for. We can only imagine sitting on a room balcony, glass of wine or whiskey in hand, staring at the lake and forgetting about all else except of what’s staring us right in the face.
