You guys already know we love restored cafe racers. You guys should already know we love gunmetal, black, and lightning bolts. And you guys should already know that we love Oreo cookie shakes and try out every one we come across. Alright maybe you guys knew none of that minus our love of cafe racers. That, you ought to know.
Thus enters Hookie Co.’s take on a BMW R100/7 build. And well, the finished result is glorious. The color scheme and finishes are sublimely cohesive. Most of the bike is matte. You don’t find much gloss on the bike to begin with. The front fork, mufflers, tank and most other components look to have matte finishes which is fine by us. The changes in tonality are instead offered by material finishes and polishes. The seat appears to have a sort of Alcantara-like finishing to the leather and hides a curved LED tail light. The gas cap is aluminum offering a slightly different finish to that of the tank.
The most prominent detail in this supremely executed exercise in subtlety is the black lightning bolt on the tank. Had we gone to a custom shop and asked for a fully restored R100/7, we think it’d probably look just like this. Photo © Hookie Co. GmbH.
